Bahrain beat Oman 3-0 but still went out: The point-ratio story at the Asian Men's Volleyball Championship

Fukuoka, Japan – Bahrain left the Asian Men's Volleyball Championship with a 3-0 win over Oman, but that victory was not enough to secure a quarterfinal spot. Set scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-23 showed clear dominance, yet the last ticket went to India on a better point ratio. Bahrain finished third in Pool A and matched India in wins, total points and set ratio. However, the tiebreaker based on points scored divided by points conceded eliminated them. Outside hitter Sayed Hashem Ali scored 13 points, opposite Abdulla Ebrahim added 10, and middle blocker Hasan Haider Mohamed delivered an outstanding performance with 11 points, including seven kill blocks. Oman's Fallah Saleem Al-Aabed Mubarak Al Jaradi also scored 13, while opposite Majid Abdallah Ali Al-Shibli had 11, but Oman could not cope with Bahrain's blocking structure. This result highlights a harsh rule in Asian volleyball: when teams tie, point ratio decides who advances. Bahrain's 3-0 win came too late to repair earlier point losses. India, as the second-best third-placed team, moved on. The tournament also serves as a direct qualifier for the LA 2028 Olympics and the 2027 World Cup. For Bahrain, the lesson is clear: winning is not enough unless the winning margin is managed carefully throughout the group stage. The team has talent, but it still needs more tactical depth and better set-by-set discipline to survive future continental competitions.
